Clean at Sephora is the retail giant’s curated list highlighting clean beauty and wellness brands. The initiative aims to encourage consumers to shop for products that are safe for their bodies and the environment.
In December 2022, I learned that Ami Colé was added to the lineup. Although I had never personally used any products from the brand, I was excited to learn more about the Senegalese-inspired label that now has the opportunity to showcase its clean and inclusive makeup to loyal Sephora customers.
My sentiment was echoed by Sephora’s SVP of Merchandising Makeup & Fragrance, Alison Hahn, who expressed via a press release obtained by Glowsly, Sephora is thrilled to support Ami Colé’s mission to provide customers with clean and inclusive products. “We look forward to welcoming this brand into our Sephora community and know it’ll be a great addition to our makeup assortment,” Hahn shared, noting the Black-owned brand will be available in 277 Sephora locations.
Discovering Ami Colé
Senegalese-American entrepreneur Diarrha N’Diaye-Mbaye founded Ami Colé in May 2021. Since its launch, the brand has successfully celebrated melanin-rich skin with a line of clean makeup essentials.
As an advocate for clean beauty — a term used to describe products formulated without harsh ingredients — I was excited to discover Ami Colé at Sephora, one of my favorite places to shop for beauty must-haves.
Since the brand’s launch, I’ve heard significant buzz and reviews surrounding the Lip Treatment Oil, which features a host of hydrating ingredients, and the Light-Catching Highlighter that promises to provide a dewy natural glow in seconds. I’ve even heard good things about the newer Lash-Amplifying Mascara and Ultra-Flex Brow Shaping Gel, both added to the makeup collection months after the brand’s initial launch.
Sculpted brows, subtle sheen, and curly lashes
After some research, I learned that Ami Colé prides itself on elevating customers’ beauty, not masking it. As a huge fan of creating simplistic makeup looks, I couldn’t wait to try the products my friends raved about.
I started with my brows to create my simple everyday look. I adored how the brow gel shaped and held my brows in place for several hours without making them look stiff or feel sticky. I found that it was very similar to my favorite Morphe brow gel, which I had recently run out of.
Next, I used the brand’s roll-on highlighter. While I appreciated the subtle sheen the balm provided, it was different from what I was used to in a highlighter. I love an unnatural shimmer that can be seen from miles away, but Ami Colé’s roll-on highlighter is ideal for those who want a fresh and dewy appearance.
Emerald’s Discovery: Looking to turn up the kilowatts of the highlighter, which I already applied to my eyelids, cheeks, and the bridge of my nose, I decided to experiment with sparkly eyeshadow and powder blush. Let’s just say it turned out stunning! I was impressed that the highlighter base could lock down and enhance the powdery products without leaving a patchy appearance. From now on, I’ll be using the highlighter as my base for powder products.
Because my lashes are naturally straight, typical mascaras don’t help much with lifting. However, the Lash-Amplifying Mascara successfully lifted and emphasized my lashes, leaving me wanting to bat my lashes at whoever I encountered.
I completed the look with the Lip Treatment Oil. It provided just the right amount of hydration, and the color was ideal for a minimalist look. It’s packed with skin-nourishing ingredients like baobab oil, camellia seed oil, and passion fruit seed oil, which I adore. My look, in three words, was fresh, subtle, and shimmery.

Overall, I was pleased with the feel and performance of the products. Needless to say, Ami Colé has officially made its way into my everyday makeup bag.
