Milan Fashion Week spring 2019 has brought some great fashion moments and quite a few fashion trends to light. Between Prada’s baby bangs and oversized headbands, Moschino’s giant bridal bubble dress and Emporio Armani’s airport setting, there was much to look at and much more to enjoy.
Coed shows are often so much more interesting, which is why Armani’s really caught our attention among the mix. But whereas some of our favorite designers were staying modest, brand houses such as Prada were attempting to reverse trends as well. Which collection did you prefer from these three top labels?
Prada Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
There is very little that can be said outside of praising the Prada spring 2019 runway show. The looks were superb, and the pieces we saw moving down that catwalk were super utilitarian. There was so much to be found, and certainly something for every taste.
Whether the biker short trend appeals to you or a preference is shown for plunging bodysuits with sex appeal, Prada delivered with a very ‘60s and ‘70s meet the modern woman design. Miuccia Prada admitted to wanting “to break the rules of the classic” with the Prada spring 2019 collection and she really managed that.
It was a great combination of conservative meets fantastically liberated. Her target audience? The youth. But she does not lump them under a single classification system either. Instead, she is convinced that each and every piece must appeal to a variety of individuals, people with diverse interests and fashion choices.
Simplification or lumping under a single hashtag simply will not do. Instead, the fashion presented is high in quality and perfectly wearable, featuring tie-dye skirts and cashmere sweaters alongside double-breasted jackets and neat white shirt collars.
In the meantime, we see subversive ‘60s surfer girls, a pared-down attitude and an attempt to reverse the tiny sunglasses trend. We might have been seeing oversized for a while now, but Prada doesn’t care. The new collection features eyewear that covers about half the face. As for colors to look for, vermilion, pistachio and a rosy pink are top on that list.
Moschino Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
If one is looking for a fun collection, Moschino is certainly the designer label to check out. The dresses appeared like sketchpads on the Milan runway, and Gigi Hadid closed the show with a giant bridal bubble dress paired with sheer tights featuring more sketch marks. Surprisingly, it looked quite handsome on that stage, especially with the butterfly backdrop.
We must say, though, the whole Moschino spring 2019 collection almost seemed like the brand was trying to create cartoon characters in 2D, using a marker to lightly color in the pieces. Hats, jackets and even little red dresses utilized this style. Among all the designer clothes that are almost too serious to check out, Moschino brought a whole lot of smiles to the faces of those both in the audience and not.
Jeremy Scott is an incredible designer for Moschino and for years now has been giving us the unconventional but downright desirable. The show itself was fantastically set up, with Gigi Hadid calling Scott and telling him, he’s late to his own show.
All Scott’s got are sketches. So that’s exactly what he brings in. We get a load of pouf-sleeved tops and waist-cinching bows, some rather saucy wrap dresses and lots of magic marker squiggles. It was hard not to fall in love. We look forward to seeing some of these around town in the near future.
Emporio Armani Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
Where Prada is recreating top fashion trends for spring 2019, and Moschino is hastily scribbling on clothes, Emporio Armani is on the more serious side with a futuristic attitude. Holding the fashion show at the Linate airport with planes taking off to Rome, London and Paris near to the runway, Emporio Armani ensured the audience would have no shortage of incredible eye candy with over 170 looks presented on stage.
From boxing shorts to parka dresses to some classic Armani pieces presented with a flourish, we had much to consider. Strapless jumpsuits in a textured technical knit material? Check! Heavy metal jewelry? Check! Looks topped with sequined baseball caps? Check! There was a whole story told, in colors, in time period presented, and styles to suit every taste.
Finally, the eveningwear appeared in a predominantly green and violent tone, leaving those watching utterly mesmerized. The sheer expanse of the Emporio Armani spring 2019 collection was incredible, not to mention the strength of its presentation. With thousands of guests checking in, literally, it was a night to remember for those who managed to get onto the guest list.
Between easy fits and sophisticated looks, great music in the background and a setting to be envious of, the Emporio Armani spring 2019 collection Milan Fashion Week show was by far the hottest one in town.
