The Milan Fashion Week spring 2019 motto seems to be that more is indeed more. From the street fashion to the runway looks, both the models and the audience have been decked out to the tee, going above and beyond even in everyday clothing. Milan is over the top, and we are loving it.
The designer catwalks showcase the beauty of going that extra mile that is so very Milanese. From the Tod’s millennial-friendly collection with its “Italian attitude” to the Sportmax watersport inspired offerings, we get some pretty interesting outfits presented on stage and ready to make their way into our wardrobes. Or perhaps it is the color pop from MSGM that does it for you?
Tod’s Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
If we were to describe the Tod’s spring 2019 collection with a single word, it would be gorgeous. We love the use of color, texture and a passionate touch, ensuring a very down-to-earth but still quite spectacular show. This was the first Tod’s coed, and the audience had assembled accordingly.
The Tod’s woman was shown loving her leather, clad in python and suede alongside the traditional leather textures. It had a very Wild West meets modern classic feel to it, with trends ranging from the spring top picks to those of the past seasons.
Plunging necklines, center slits, wraparound dresses, button-down shirts, high waists and short shorts all appeared on that runway. It was mesmerizing the way spring 2019 colors and textures were combined. In essence, the Tod’s luxury lineup presented high-quality Italian vibes.
While this collection is focused on a sporty mood, the upcoming collaboration with Alessandro dell’Acqua will go for chic sophistication, drawing out the strength in femininity. And of course, there is a handbag to go with every outfit offered, no matter the collection.
Sportmax Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
Ladies, meet fun, sports and summer! Sportmax has taken inspiration from competitive water games and brought to us a futuristic design lineup that is both revealing and covered up. It includes both deconstruction and major color coordination on layering.
The Sportmax spring 2019 collection showed up stylized surfwear mixed with womenswear utilizing tailored menswear motifs. It was mostly surf and surf culture that formed the basis of this lovely 45-outfit collection.
We especially loved seeing the shell anklets, and the bralette tops alongside the playful vibe seen through the show. Alongside the sportswear, we also noticed leather board shorts that one certainly cannot go near the water with, and superfine grey wool skirt and suit jackets that are as professional as they are chic.
The colors certainly are not as vibrant as in other collections, but we see a whole lot of blue and a good amount of reflective paillettes adding a nightclub charm to the dress designs. It might not scream Tod’s luxury, but it certainly holds its own on the Milanese runway.
MSGM Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
When it comes to more is more, MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti really took it up a notch, allowing his line to boom. It was the fluid femininity that inspired the MSGM spring 2019 collection, with a general feel of “Time to Dream” and a slogan of “Dream Together.”
From jersey stretch dresses to blurry flower prints, we got a gorgeous 48-look rich collection to choose from. Of course, there is the street style to it, as with almost every designer this season, while there was a special focus on dresses, skirts and transparency to the chest region. Major color blocking defined the lineup, while that little red dress over biker shorts was quite intriguing and brought some sweet romance to mind.
While most were focused on the younger generation, Giorgetti had a woman in mind. Age fluidity was there, without a doubt, but there was something more mature about the looks, more stereotypically female about it all. He went for the more boxy, louder, and downright beautiful, with tie-dye and feathery party dresses adding to a fun vibe.
We have to admit, bright yellow flowers on denim are enough of a crossover between youthful and grown-up that we will surely be investing in some of these two-piece sets. Plus, the pop of colors throughout the lineup is impossible not to love.
