New York Fashion Week is well underway, and the spring 2019 runway collections are simply too intriguing to pass up. The designers are focused on the fabulous, but there is quite a bit of nostalgia in the inspiration as well.
For Alexander Wang, inspiration flowed from getting his long separated parents together and talking about their immigration process decades back. Overall, between Alexander Wang, Tom Ford and Jason Wu, we have some spectacular new spring 2019 trends to look forwards to. Your wardrobe would be sorely bereft without them!
Alexander Wang Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
This show was extra special for talented designer Alexander Wang. The note cards on the seats read out: “Today marks a new beginning, a new identity, and a new day for my brand.”
Furthermore, some family hugs were in order before exiting the stage as his father had seen his first Alexander Wang show, ever. Considering the designer’s parents served as inspiration, we get a little teary eyed thinking about the high levels of emotion on that catwalk today.
In typical Alexander Wang style, we saw a whole lot of leather and a whole lot of black in the Alexander Wang spring 2019 runway collection. We also saw a whole lot of leg and a whole lot of midriff.
The collection screams street-style, with a whole lot of Chinatown-meets-America references. Those sexy dresses made from deconstructed football jerseys were just the cherry on top of it all, while we get some distinctively hyper-styled motocross looks to really get that adrenaline pumping. Plus, a new sneaker with Adidas is a must-add to any shoe closet.
One trend you definitely might want to look into? Those ethnic silver chain necklaces were really out there and the perfect statement piece for any outfit, casual or otherwise.
Tom Ford Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
Chic, classy and with so much shine, the Tom Ford spring 2019 collection really brought the new Netflix Series Babylon Berlin on to the New York runway with an after-dark glamor that was simply bewitching.
In an interview, the designer revealed that it was the need to make both men and women feel beautiful, confident, and empowered that brought him into the fashion world. Today, he proved once again that Ford is a designer who stays true to his mission.
Every single piece could be worn throughout one’s daily life. Every single piece spoke volumes about the wearer. The passion resonates, the glamor cannot be denied, and the seduction of the designs was incomparable. Flattering the figure, it was clear that each piece was painstakingly put together with the beautification process of the customer in mind.
While black is normally a very fall/ winter color, and the spring fashions are full of bright hues and pastels, it appears some of our top designers are opting for dark and pale color contrasts, with black definitely appearing as a staple.
“I feel that fashion has somehow lost its way a bit, and it is easy for all of us to be swept up in trends that have lost touch with what women and men want to actually wear,” Ford stated. So we see a reset. And this is one delivered true to his values.
With a dialed down decadence, we saw a world of fashion that had us melting with every sway of the silk-satin fabrics in skin-tone hues and the palest of lilacs.
Jason Wu Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
This spring, the collections get downright personal, as each designer brings a part of him or herself onto that catwalk. Jason Wu is certainly no exception, made clear with his claim about the sixteen dresses that define who he really is.
Except, while most opt for that runway show, Wu opted for an event that lacked that particular staple. This was the debut of Jason Wu Collection and is the streamlined version of his more contemporary line. Jason Wu Collection, versus Jason Wu, is the designer’s highest luxury line, and was presented with mannequins against gorgeous Putnam & Putnam wildflower vignettes.
The ultra-feminine, lacy and modern designs served to enhance with a certain subtle rawness that could be observed through both the craftsmanship and fabric choices. There is no place for a fuller woman in any of these, however.
It amplifies a slim figure, utilizing both prints and vivid colors to express that notion of utter femininity, of power through grace and beauty. The florals flowed with the wispy fabrics and brought garden fairies with gentle hearts to mind.
We are thoroughly in love with the pinstripes and the use of diagonal cuts for a longer, slimmer look.
