Designers and their spring 2018 runway collections are incredibly efficient at conveying their inspiration and the upcoming season with a single glance. The runway presentation gives people a look and feel of what the designer feels is coming for the new season. Spring 2018 according to Mugler, Acne Studios and Elie Saab are clearly very different.
The palettes showcased at the spring 2018 runway shows of Elie Saab, Mugler, and Acne Studios, though all for spring, are different. The effects were different. The core inspirations were different. But each of the collection showed well, and in some case bewitchingly well.
Mugler Spring/ Summer 2018 RTW Collection
The Mugler spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection was very tough girl chic. The aesthetic seemed to be very in line with the look that has become increasingly popular since Wonder Woman came out – cinched and sexy, but capable and determined.
The denim coreset tops, and sculpted, cinched-appearing leather belts were some of the eye-catching details of the show. The inspiration for the very angular collection was a French Western from 1971 named “Les Pétroleuses”. The title means Frenchie King in English and it starred Brigitte Bardot and Claudia Cardinale.
Everything about the Mugler spring/ summer 2018 collection conveyed strength and style. According to David Koma, the aesthetic was based on the characters played by Bardot and Cardinale in the move.
The Western references are not actually apparent, minus the touch of cowboy boot accents to the shoes. The collection was very well rounded, although most of the looks featured pointed shoulders or hips.
There were very bright accents and sparkling silver popping up in places during the show. There was everything from pantsuits to flowing sheer chiffon dresses, showing off sheer as another spring 2018 trend still running in the upcoming season.
Acne Studios Spring/ Summer 2018 RTW Collection
Acne Studios’ Jonny Johansson sees their collection and overall aesthetic as being a step out from the fashion scene. Acne Studios spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection was designed around the aesthetic of orbiting around what is currently fashionable. According to the designer, he was inspired by fashion outsiders, like the kids he sees when surfing.
Oversized shirts, bias-cut slip dresses, maxi dresses with thick fringe hems, and embroidered work shirts made of leather all came together for an interesting final aesthetic noted as “thrift store on acid” chic. It was a pretty collection with an interesting take on the upcoming spring 2018 season.
He said that his inspirations “…don’t really care about fashion in the same way I do and I really like that energy of how they put things together.” The collection could have very easily gone over the top, but there was a very good amount of restraint.
Elie Saab Spring/ Summer 2018 RTW Collection
Elie Saab featured a lot of movement and Amazonian forest vibes in the spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection. The flowing silk was transformed into day dresses, evening gowns, and very sexy accessories.
The colors at the Elie Saab spring 2018 runway show were vibrant, beautiful and very much a representative of spring, but some of the absolute best looks came in the patterns. Everything was tailored beautifully well, and the pieces ranged to include jumpsuits, mini dresses, fringe and some incredible jackets, but the real jaw-dropping ensembles were with the long flowing silk.
A dark skirt set with a fully embellished and pleated high waisted design was topped with a button and tie-front shirt with just the right amount of sheerness and volume to the sleeves to be updated and to look different.
Strappy stiletto shoes worn with every outfit ranged in design and color on the runway and were a nod to the newness of spring as well. The looks were cohesive and well put together, vibrant and new.
Patterns that played with dark and vibrant spring 2018 colors created stunning illusions that the audience was just not quite ready for – they seemed an unexpected delight, interspersed amongst the solid colored options. Elie Saab’s line-up was another collection that really played with ombre, fringe and sheer for an incredibly diverse showing.
Green and yellow foliage patterns and bright yellow pieces were more prevalent towards the end of the show, but for those who love darker colors or even just a crisp, white there were options in the collection. Graceful, superb looking options in navy and black and even a collection of rainforest jewel tones made an appearance as well.
Overall the Elie Saab spring/ summer 2018 collection was resplendent from beginning to end, each option a dazzling and refined design for any wardrobe.
