Finally we head into Paris Fashion Week spring 2019 as the last leg of this race. It has been an incredibly fashionable adventure so far, but it is always clear that Paris will be blowing this out of the water. This diary entry will focus on the spring 2019 collections of some French giants, including Dior, Gucci and Saint Laurent.
We still have a few days until the end of the Paris shows, but we are considerably enjoying the appetizers. Whether it was the presentation or the collections themselves, these houses rocked the fashion scene, with Paris Fashion Week kicking off with Dior and Gucci first.
Dior Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
Dancers took over the Dior spring 2019 runway show as the house kicked off Paris Fashion Week. Dance has long been one of fashion’s biggest inspirations and obsessions, which made it the perfect choice for the Dior spring collection’s debut.
Maria Grazia Chiuri made sure that this presentation paid homage to heroines of contemporary dance such as Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and Pina Bausch. The Christian Dior spring 2019 collection itself reflected the intimacy of dance, stimulating the imagination with ballet-ready bodysuits in black, grey, beige and pink, alongside jersey dresses, spaghetti strapped tank tops and tights layered under tutu-like skirts. Of course, this was offset with a lineup of cargo pants, navy blue sweaters, and culottes.
There were a few spring 2019 trends we noticed rearing their heads here as well, including the fishnet lace overlays, the cinched waists, flowing fluid skirts, and an ancient meets modern meets future effect throughout. There was some Grecian happening on that stage as well as a modern romance.
While street sport was not Dior’s thing this season, we fell in love with the fluidity and earthiness of it all. Plus, a whole lot of sheer was incorporated, from skirts to sleeves to overall dresses. Personally, the lapelled sleeveless button-ups were a great addition. Let’s just say that the lineup offered a good number of chic and professional alongside the daring and personal.
As for the beauty trends to buy into, bold eyes, and sleek headbands are all the rage.
Gucci Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
We expect the unexpected from Gucci, and they do not disappoint. This time around, as the United Nations General Assembly began its session in New York, Gucci brought its followers into a nightclub-turned-theatre of Le Palace. It was a show full of color, full of style and full of incredible inspirations, not matching but utterly captivating.
Lurex, feathers, canvas, leather, tennis sweaters, jock straps, ruffles, shine, Chinoiserie and so many prints made it onto the stage and into our hearts. The Gucci spring 2019 collection was glamour at its best, made palatable for divas and non-divas alike. It was out of order and somehow harmonious at once. The world was essentially united in a barrage of clothing, speaking a language we all understand.
Alessandro Michele upended the Gucci direction upon arrival, moving things laterally from sex to emotion, the values of the vintage placed as priority. Yes, the sexy is still there, but it is an undertone instead.
We are bombarded with color and a kaleidoscope of designs instead. Mind you, that Dolly Parton tribute was definitely one to remember. She is, after all, an icon we all look up to. Plus, who would not want a Mickey Mouse bag, no matter how old you are?
Saint Laurent Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
It has been a staple of Saint Laurent to give us a show we will not soon forget. For the Saint Laurent spring 2019 collection, the house decided to send their models out to walk on water, literally. Add to this the leopard print phenomenon, and we can easily say we were entertained and quite beguiled. The print is staying on, baby, and that in and of itself deserves a standing ovation.
The Saint Laurent spring 2019 show was held underneath a sparkling Eiffel Tower, taking place after sunset on a water-filled runway surrounded by electric palm trees. The star-studded audience even included Lindsay Lohan, a surprise appearance to say the least.
A whopping 95 looks were presented, with the models trotting along in gorgeous heels and sexy outfits. It was a breathtaking scene and blew many of the shows right out of the water.
The Saint Laurent collection was all about glitz, glam and a sexy attitude. With quite a few sheer tops finding their way into the lineup as well, we can safely say that the trend has not found its end yet. Plunging necklines, high hemlines, and an ode to the little black dress really brought out the best of Saint Laurent.
