The spring/ summer 2019 accessories and jewelry trends are giving you a large range of options, but subtlety is not one of them. For the spring 2019 accessories we saw all kinds of feminine options like gloves and tiaras, fully in line with the overall princess theme that dominated the runways. Raw gems and seashells showed up plentifully, along with anklets, arm bands, and stacked jewelry, to embody the bohemian and wanderlust vibes of the season.

Spring/ Summer 2019 Accessory/ Jewelry Trends

The spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends also brought us the return of the choker, along with some aggressive creations in the realm of body jewelry and face armors.

Spring/ Summer 2019 Jewelry Trends

#1. Get Stacked

Both as part of a bohemian theme that was running through the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends, and just out of the typical desire many designers have for opulence, we saw all kinds of examples of jewelry stacking on the runways, from the simple choice to put two necklaces on a model (which you’ll see running throughout this whole report) to much more extreme types of jewelry layering.

The Salvatore Ferragamo runway this season was all about boho chic, so models wore multiple necklaces at once, each one looking like it came from a different exotic bazaar somewhere in the world. Coach 1941 and Chloe also gave us layered necklaces.

At Gucci, it was extreme, with a large necklace with massive beads and pendants worn over a jewel-encrusted choker with dangling chains. Other runways to feature all kinds of jewelry layering included Chanel (with Coco herself known for favoring layered bracelets and necklaces), Alexander McQueen, Anna Sui, Balmain, and more.

#2. Face Armor

Women as warriors was one of the key trends of the spring season, which was especially welcome considering the current political climate and the attacks on women’s liberty coming from every which way. Women are not going to take it passively, however, with one of the realizations of this theme for the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends being facial armor.

Models walked the runways with their faces covered in the kind of jewelry that looked like utterly effective protection – a security measure against men telling them to “smile” or from unwelcome kisses from colleagues, superiors, or strangers at the bar. The most aggressive take on face jewelry for spring 2019 came courtesy of Anrealage, with thick, black colored chains sitting over the head, covering half the face, and even blending with a large hoop earring.

Kiko Kostadinov had models in a symmetrical black and silver piece of face and head jewelry, while the symmetrical design at Koche, which also covered the mouth, was all silver and jewels. At Alexander Wang, jeweled black mouth guards reminded of a dog’s mouth guard, and looked like they were doing the protection both ways.

#3. Extreme Hoop Earrings

Don’t expect to see delicate hoop earrings in the streets for the spring 2019 jewelry trends. Instead, watch out for hyper-hoops: extreme version of hoop earrings in all kinds of sizes with all kinds of embellishments and additions.

At Matty Bovan, neon punk sensibilities also extended to earrings, with large and colorful hoop earrings filled in the center with geometric netting. Earrings at Loewe also exuded a hint of a punk vibe, as they were filled in with black leather, and had smaller hoops surrounding their perimeter.

We enjoyed hoops with unusual shapes instead of your typical round hoop on the runways of Jacquemus, Balenciaga, Sonia Rykiel and Alyx.

#4. Loose Chokers

Despite what some may have predicted, chokers are not out for the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends. Instead, they’ve had a comfy makeover, with the chokers dominating the runways sitting low on the neck, just above the collar bone, and not looking too tight – in other words, the chokers were there but they weren’t choking this season.

These chokers really showed a lot of range, as far as design went. On one extreme end we had BDSM-inspired chokers at Junya Watanabe, worn over leather collars. At Giorgio Armani, chokers represented the more boho-chic side of things, as there were made of a thick dread-like material, and sat around the neck in threes like rings of Saturn.

At Prada, the chokers were cute, thick rings adorned with a little bow. There were also many chokers made of chain links, which was another one of the spring 2019 jewelry trends.

#5. Body Jewelry

We saw all kinds of takes on body jewelry as part of the spring 2019 accessories, with models wearing adornments on their torso both over and under clothes. The effect of body jewelry ranged from the more understated to the aggressive to the sexy and seductive.

The warrior princess vibe on the Alexander McQueen runway was emphasized with thick chains wrapped over the shoulders and around the waist, coming together just over the belly button with a gorgeous pendant. Warrior princess also came to mind at Louis Vuitton with a marvelous spiky silver contraption worn over the shoulders.

A beautiful, jewel-encrusted chain at No. 21 circled the arms, went around the waist, and around the neck, over a simple black skirt and blouse combo, really elevating what was a simple outfit. Body jewelry at Versace was pure sex, with a gorgeous chain worn below a blouse, coming down the center of the torso and surrounding the waist, beautifully embellishing an exposed midriff.

#6. Jewels Attached to Clothes

Putting on jewelry can be a hassle, but having it already attached to your clothes? That makes things convenient. It can also help those who are forgetful (i.e yours truly) or folks who have metal allergies and cannot have jewelry come in direct contact with their skin. There are plenty of reasons to appreciate jewelry on clothing being one of the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends.

So at Christopher Kane, the jewels did come in contact with the skin, as they adorned the deep cleavage of the jumpsuit to which they were attached. At Burberry, on the other hand, little hoops attached to a trench coat gave an endless amount of bling without ever coming in contact with the body.

#7. Low Hanging Pendant Earrings

Are you ready to take on a considerable toll? If you are, check out the super low-hanging pendants that became one of the spring 2019 jewelry trends. We saw pendant earrings taken to the extreme this season, reaching the shoulder and beyond.

At Givenchy, a pair of silver chandelier earrings hung all the way down past the collar of a blouse to graze the shoulders. On the runways of Fashion East and Arthur Arbesser, earrings also reached down far, but what was unique is that each model only wore a single one of those statement earrings.

On the Vivienne Westwood runway, we saw earrings that went all the way down past the collarbone, made of a transgressive mixture of metal and leather. Other runways to go all out with the length of the earrings included Chloe and Gucci.

#8. Feathers

Adding soft feather or faux-fur embellishments to jewelry can be difficult, but designers did so expertly in the spring/ summer 2019 accessories, lending joy and interest to their creations.

Colorful feathers were used to adorn hoop earrings and bracelets at Loewe, giving a wild vibe to the overall look. At Longchamp, long feather earrings also acted as shoulder dusters, and blended smoothly into the spring 2019 hairstyles, adding color. Crescent earrings with some peach-colored feathers looked lovely and modern on the runway of Ulla Johnson.

#9. Chunky Bracelets

A chunky bracelet is the staple of a boho-chic look, especially if one is avoiding stacking bracelets. It immediately draws attention as one gestures with their hands, perhaps telling tales of travels and foreign bazaars.

At Giorgio Armani, we saw a collection filled with plastics in various shades of blue and purple. Chunky bracelets, either made of large, solid pieces of plastic or covered in small stones drew attention and did a beautiful job of emphasizing delicate wrists.

We also saw chunky bracelets at Emporio Armani, but made out of one solid piece, and in solid colors that matched the runway looks. Clear, thick bracelets made of plastic were layered over long-sleeved tops at Balmain, looking futuristic.

#10. Tassels

We didn’t see a ton of tassels on the runways when it came to clothing, but they seemed to be everywhere for the spring 2019 bags and other spring/ summer 2019 accessories. This means that tassels also showed up on the jewelry for this season.

Colorful tassel earrings at Chloe were the height of class, as the top part holding the pieces of blue string together and connecting the whole creation to the ear was made in a beautiful gold design. Tassels were part of both outfits and jewelry at Oscar de la Renta, with ridiculously long tasseled earrings really making a splash.

#11. Seashell Jewelry

Designers were dreaming of the beach and tropical vacations, and that absolutely expressed itself in the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends. Shells showed up in all manner of jewelry items, interjecting a touch of the bohemian and a lot of wistfulness.

Altuzarra had one of the beachiest runways this season, with seashells showing up on clothes, bags, as well as spring 2019 jewelry including necklaces and earrings. Shells showed up on jewelry at Etro as well, but with the addition of extra bling that gave them a more luxurious vibe.

Shells had a decidedly less bohemian or summery effect at Michael Kors, where a large, bejewelled shell took center stage as the only pendant on a thin long chain. We also saw shells in the spring/ summer 2019 accessories at Anna Sui, Giambattista Valli, and Missoni.

#12. Fringed Chokers

Jewelry that covers the chest showed up in multiple places as part of the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends, and particularly as chokers with a fringe descending form them.

At Gucci, chokers with dozens of little chains descending from them were dark and sexy. When they were styled over turtleneck shirts the look was innovative and very street-style, though it also worked well with evening dresses. These kinds of necklaces technically cover, but we all know that in reality they just call attention to a sexy bared cleavage.

The chokers at Area were much more elegant and delicate, made of a net-like design in silver, studded with gemstones and with a few chains descending loosely over the collarbone. We also saw chokers embellished with a fringe at Miu Miu, in a particularly asymmetrical design.

Spring/ Summer 2019 Jewelry Trends: Fringed Chokers

#13. Multiple Statement Rings

A chunky ring makes the hand look delicately small and can portray a confident, exuberant woman with its whimsical cheekiness. Multiple rings multiply this effect, and bring to mind the same excessive opulence of other stacked jewelry trends from the spring 2019 accessories.

At Dries Van Noten, models’ hands were embellished with colorful rings for a joyful effect. At Oscar de la Renta, the rings combined were made with pearl and classy silver, but paired together, their effect was much more playful.

#14. Mismatched Earrings

Whether it is because they had simply had too many earrings to choose from, or whether it was out of a desire to show that they are still avant-garde rule breakers, stylists made wearing mismatched earrings (or only wearing a single earring) one of the spring 2019 jewelry trends.

Different kinds of silver earrings, with different sizes, were worn on the lobes of models at the Jil Sander show, throwing the head slightly off-kilter in a negation of symmetry. It was mismatched earrings in gold with traditional hoop or pearl designs that were worn at Adeam.

#15. Single Earring

Wearing a single earring has become a common sight in fashion, and it doesn’t have the intention to leave the scene anytime soon. Alongside the mismatched earring trend, the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends encourage wearing a single earring to stand out from the crowd without trying too hard.

We saw tons of single earrings at Oscar de la Renta, from the most delicate to the most creative, with charms or featuring a delicate pearl for an extra feminine factor. At Monse, this look was combined with the chunky chain trend producing a wow-worthy single earring that’s minimalist and extravagant at the same time.

Marni’s single earring was a real masterpiece resembling the torso of the Aphrodite of Knidos sculpture that will reveal your artistic side as you wear it. The single earring trend was also spotted at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dior and many others.

#16. Logo Jewelry

At this point, the brands presenting during fashion month are institutions that will not be forgotten. Despite this, it is undeniable that for those wearing them, the brands are a status symbol that must be made explicit, which is why logo jewelry will never disappear, and why it was indeed one of the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends.

There were two types of takes on logo jewelry at Chanel: subtle takes, like a boho multi-chain necklace with circular pendants that you’d only notice were emblazoned with the iconic CC logo after a close look, and more explicit ones like a yellow bracelet with Chanel written on it in gold letters. Logo jewelry was explicit at Balenciaga, with necklaces proclaiming the name of the brand.

#17. Thick Chain Links

The symbolism of the chain is a powerful one. The chain is an aggressive tool of entrapment, keeping what it holds from moving, rioting, attacking, or expressing any level of phystical autonomy. In fashion, chains have always had a hint of aggression to them, worn by those wanting to express their membership in some sort of counter-culture.

In the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends we’ve seen an attempt to use chain links in a softer way that tried to evade their aggressive symbolism, although we’ve also seen some more old-school, punk-rock takes.

Chain chokers at Marni were colored gold and had a sleek, minimalist effect. At Hermes, chokers with thick, silver chain link elements were also modern and more chic. In both cases, that just brought to mind the idea of beautiful chains still keeping one enslaved.

The chain chokers at Off-White had a more aggressive vibe, despite being worn over the collar of a buttoned-up white blouse. The contrast was appealing, and the choker was also part of the new trend towards looser, more comfortable chokers.

Other designers to make use of chains in their spring 2019 jewelry designs included Paco Rabanne, Monse, Escada, Giambattista Valli, and more.

#18. Medallion Charms

One of the lovely little off-shoots of all the wanderlust and bohemian elements of the season was the medallion charm that showed up on all kinds of different jewelry items as part of the spring 2019 accessory trends.

Delicate medallions at Tadashi Shoji had a lovely layered effect, as each of the three medallions sat right at the center of a simple golden chain. Each chain was worn directly above the previous one, also embodying the trend for stacking jewelry this season. Medallions also figured heavily in jewelry designs at Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Paco Rabanne, and more.

#19. Open U Jewelry

The open U shape is a unique one for jewelry, as it is essentially an incomplete circle and makes for an item that could fall off or be lost easily. Despite that, it showed up on a few runways to become one of the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends.

Chokers were a key piece of jewelry on the runways, and at Saint Laurent we saw an interesting U-shaped variation on them, where chokers were made of U-shaped links that required very careful crafting and balance as to not fall apart. At Fendi, U-shaped chokers were much simpler, with the choker being comprised of a simple, colorful circle with a small opening at the front.

At Valentino, this shape showed up in a large, thick pair of golden earrings that would have been hoops if it weren’t for the U opening.

#20. Floral Jewelry

The spring 2019 jewelry trends included a ton of seasonal florals, perhaps to match the season’s floral-heavy garments.

Versace gave us a combination of trends, with models wearing shiny flower-shaped ear cuffs from lobe all the way up to mid-cartilage. We also saw floral bracelets and necklaces on that same summery runway. Dolce & Gabbana showed how flowers could become extravagant, when created out of rich gold and shaped into a large, opulent ring.

#21. Earrings and Ear Cuffs All Along the Ear

There was always something punk rock about earrings snaking their way all along the ear, from lobe to the very top of the cartilage. We got a lot of that, with multiple earrings showing up on every bit of ear real estate, making multiple earrings one of the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends.

Models at Prabal Gurung had their ears adorned with a variety of large hoops, sitting in the lobe, cartilage, over the ear, and even in the inside of the ear. We also saw some ear cuffs placed over the ear at Miu Miu. Other designers to create gorgeous and unique ear cuffs or earrings that go all along the ear included Zimmermann and Versace.

#22. Delicate Anklets

When you’re on vacation, the pull of the anklet is a strong one. Perhaps you see it hanging from a display at a bazaar, or splayed out in front of a young child or old woman selling their wares on an exotic beach. Anklets bring me back to those vacations – to the wind, the salt, and the struggle of haggling over a price without a common language.

Despite the romance and wanderlust of the anklet, the designs we actually saw as part of the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends were fairly delicate and understated – just simple ankle adornments. A simple chain surrounded the ankles of models at Versace and Stella McCartney, showing that just a touch of shine can add a lot to an outfit. At Chloe, anklets were more cuff-like, made of a single piece of metal and worn stacked.

#23. Everyday Objects as Jewelry

Using everyday objects to create jewelry or emulating them in designs is a super fun way of accessorizing, and it doesn’t take away from the glamour of jewelry. We saw a few quirky creations like this as part of the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends. Belt accessories at Versace really stood out, as they were shaped to look like locks or clothing pins. Metal forks were used to craft bracelets and earrings at Coach 1941.

#24. Bow Jewelry

A bow is a signifier of youth and femininity, which was glimpsed aplenty as part of the spring 2019 accessory trends, particularly on jewelry, but on other outfits and accessories as well.

At Prada, there was a mixture, with smaller leather bows adorning bracelets or worn as brooches, and larger bows decorating hoop-like chokers. Jewelry with bows on it was a natural part of the thread of cuteness running through the Miu Miu collection, where we saw bows on both spring 2019 tiaras and necklaces.

#25. Arm Cuffs

Arm cuffs or armbands were plentiful in the spring 2019 jewelry trends, working well with both bohemian and sleek designs, and adding drama to looks that bared arms. On the Giambattista Valli runway, models wore bracelets studded with raw gems about halfway up the forearm, as well as further down on the wrist.

We saw delicate golden bracelets worn halfway up the forearm at Chloe as well, adding a unique yet womanly touch. A jewel-studded snake, wrapped around the arm of one of the models at Saint Laurent, was perhaps not extremely innovative but fit with the dark, nostalgic collection.

#26. Raw Stones

Raw stones were part of the bohemian vibe of the spring 2019 jewelry trends. They are large and unique, lending an organic feel to any outfit. Naturally, they showed up on runways that were overall more bohemian, including raw gemstone necklaces at Etro and bracelets at Giambattista Valli.

They also showed up on the Missoni runway, as stones woven into a necklace or hung on an earring, along with seashells, which were another one of the spring/ summer 2019 jewelry trends.

#27. ‘80s Disco Earrings

With the ‘80s fashion holding firm for the upcoming season as well, it was no surprise to see the spring 2019 jewelry trends unveil tons of interesting ‘80s-inspired designs, among which disco-ready earrings reigned supreme. Be bold or go home is the mantra of this jewelry trend and it does proclaim new fashion victims on Instagram every day.

Balenciaga’s range of ‘80s earrings was the most elegant and covetable with the sparkly heart-shaped earrings promising to become the next It-thing come spring. Isabel Marant used rhinestone fringe accents to make her earrings just perfect for any party.

Y/Project’s ‘80s-style earrings were the most creative featuring interesting architectural shapes and managing to look bold and simple at the same time. Saint Laurent’s oversized geometrical earrings looked too fierce not to fall in love with, while Emporio Armani kept it straight and colorful.

#28. Delicate Pearl Jewelry

Next to those seashell jewelry designs, designers brought in pearl pieces as well, sometimes using them for an entire choker or necklace and other times utilizing subtle pearly accents to make things look more delicate. We loved pearl jewelry for spring 2019 in any shape or form, whether used for those cute earrings or stacked chokers and necklaces à la Chanel.

The Brock Collection pearl earrings used triangle forms and bird motifs for an overly lovable effect. A sleek pearl was added to a birdcage-resembling earring at Oscar de la Renta to make it look more sensible, while Simone Rocha combined pearl with floral details for a pair of earrings that will never go out of style.

#1. Driving Gloves

You might be thinking, it’s going to be warm, why do gloves have to be part of the spring/ summer 2019 accessory trends? Well, friend, we honestly don’t know, but don’t worry, this season’s gloves were pure feminine fashion fun. They were pretty as heck, and had no function.

Marc Jacobs, on the other hand, had the princessiest of the collections, meaning that the gloves worn by the models were delicate, lacey, and super girly. We also saw feminine lace gloves at Shrimps, but they were colored black, nicely off-setting the pastel outfits.

Silk gloves at Erdem were one of the few that actually went up the forearm, and were embellished with black, beaded chains. Emporio Armani had a collection filled with leather and PVC, so leather fingerless gloves fit in with the collection well. Their designs combined a biker’s edge with the femininity of pastel pink.

#2. Neckerchief Chic

Talk about a blast from the past! This was likely the only ‘50s-inspired of the spring 2019 accessory trends, and it went well with some of the sleek yet feminine runways.

At Tod’s, neckerchiefs were actually just stealthy chokers, with the front part made of fabric that matched the outfits, which was tied in a large bow. We saw proper neckerchiefs at Missoni, made of a delicate knitted material, with raw edges keeping the look from being too prim and proper.

Spring/ Summer 2019 Accessory Trends: Neckerchiefs

#3. Charmed Belts

A belt is normally an accessory, but when embellishments function, it becomes a piece of jewelry. Charmed belts were absolutely one of the spring/ summer 2019 accessories, and they had a distinct jewelry vibe as they adorned all kinds of outfits.

At Chanel, multiple jeweled chains, including one with the word “CHANEL” spelled out in blinged-out charms, were wrapped around the waist like a belt, but held absolutely nothing up, which placed them firmly in the category of belts as jewelry.

Stella Jean took a similar track, with a belt with colorful charms spelling out “STELLA.” A chain covered in antique-looking medallion charms with animal designs gave a unique vibe to a chain belt at Gucci. Other designers to unveil charm-covered belts included Versace, Burberry, and Paco Rabanne.
