One of these best sheet masks was made for you! Whether your skin is acne-prone, dehydrated, or totally normal but in need of a little more glow, you’ll find a product to love in our selection.
Dr. Jart+ is one of our favorite Korean brands because its formulas are consistently interesting but evidence-based. You can’t go wrong with any of their sheet masks, but this one is easily our top pick because it’s a great choice for most skincare lovers, new to sheet masking or otherwise!
It’s made out of biodegradable cellulose, with an amazing blend of hydrating and soothing ingredients like xylitol, hyaluronic acid, and licorice root extract. While it is exceptionally calming, it does contain a touch of geranium essential oil, which may pose an issue to those with fragrance allergies. It’s available at Sephora.
This incredible sheet mask from SK-II is a little pricey, but it’s oh-so-luxurious. It’s made with the brand’s signature pitera, a special rice ferment that gives the skin a bouncy feel, a glowy sheen, and a lot of moisture. It’s made of soft cotton with no irritating substances, so it’s incredibly gentle. We’re happy to recommend it to all skin types, including the very sensitive ones. If you get addicted, you’ll be happy to know it comes in a pack of 6 or 10. Get it from Sephora!
This amazing sheet mask gives your skin a treat at an affordable price. It’s a hearty mask made of 3 biodegradable layers of pulp to hug the skin with its hydrating touch. The formula is deeply nourishing with a blend of water-binding ingredients like aloe, hyaluronic acid, and butylene glycol, as well as ultra-soothing allantoin. It’s a fine choice for anyone who can handle a slight fragrance, and with the low price, it’s affordable for all beauty lovers. It’s available at Ulta and Amazon.
Tatcha is a luxury brand that means business, especially when it comes to moisturization. Their products are inspired by Japan, which is why this silky sheet mask is made with a soothing signature ferment blend known as Hadasei-3. It also includes rice germ oil, which is incredibly moisturizing thanks to its content of essential fatty acids. It leaves dry skin feeling totally nourished, soft, and radiant. It’s available at Sephora.
If your head is spinning from all of these sheet mask options, and you just want to try them all, why not buy a set? This lovely set from I Dew Care features 7 different types of masks, with two of each, making for 14 masks in total. Each one is brightening and hydrating, but with different plant extracts and actives for different effects and fragrances. If your skin is fine with both fragrances and frequent product changes, this set is a ton of fun to explore. You can buy it at Ulta or Amazon.
Sheet masks are great, even if you suffer from the occasional breakout. In fact, they’re a much better way to hydrate the skin than most leave-on masks, which can feel heavy and greasy. This mask saturates the skin with moisture while also delivering a potent anti-acne combo of pore-shrinking niacinamide, bacteria-fighting tea tree oil, and blemish-busting salicylic acid. You can use it regularly or keep it around as a skin-saver when the odd breakout pops up. Get it from Sephora!
This soothing and revitalizing sheet mask from Avène is our favorite option for those with ultra-sensitive skin. It’s formulated with Avene’s signature mineral-rich water, which soothes the skin while hydrating it lightly. It’s incredibly simple and totally free of fragrances or other potential irritants, so it’s especially nice if your skin is highly reactive, especially as a cooling treatment after excessive sun exposure or a peel. This sheet mask is available for purchase at Dermstore.
If you’re trying to reverse the effects of time and photodamage, this is the sheet mask to pick up! It comes from the Japanese brand Shiseido and has a potent formula enriched with skin-smoothing and wrinkle-fading retinol. It’s a rich mask that also includes squalane, glycerin, and chlorella, to give the skin and moisturized and hydrated appearance. Shop for it at Nordstrom or Sephora!
One of the best things about Korean skincare is the unique yet effective natural ingredients in the products. Snail mucin is one of those incredible ingredients because it’s extremely hydrating, soothing, and protective, with some surprising anti-aging effects.
COSRX is one of the best brands for snail mucin products, with this incredible mask as a particularly wonderful option. It’s fragrance-free, so it’s good for all skin types. It also includes super-soothing allantoin to help with redness and hydrating hyaluronic acid to combat dehydration. Buy it on Amazon!
This unusual sheet mask from Charlotte Tilbury actually comes dry. It’s designed with a blend of rich emollients and some potent anti-aging peptides, antioxidants, and plant extracts, but without any water to take up precious space. When you apply it to damp skin, the ingredients sink in deeply to give the skin a plump, youthful, and moisturized look. We recommend it especially for moist environments like the steam room. Get it from Nordstrom!
The next step up for a typical sheet mask is a hydrogel mask. Instead of cotton or cellulose, hydrogel masks are composed of a cooling gel material that saturates the skin with an incredible amount of moisture. This particular mask is especially luxurious and contains a dramatic amount of probiotic Bifidus extract, which gives the skin a hydrated glow while supporting its microbiome. Find it at Nordstrom!
If you have oily skin or larger pores, then your skin will adore this sheet mask. The charcoal in it absorbs excess oils and impurities from the skin, while tea tree oil and salicylic acid provide an anti-acne effect. Despite these purifying ingredients, the formula is still wonderfully hydrating thanks to a touch of non-comedogenic glycerin and panthenol. Order it from Amazon!
If you’re dealing with dryness or hyperpigmentation, then a brightening sheet mask can restore some glow to your skin! Of course, a daily brightening routine is essential, but this wonderful mask is sure to help. It’s made with potent vitamin C for its anti-aging and brightening effect, as well as licorice extract, which is known as a skin-soothing and radiance-giving ingredient. As a bonus, it’s very budget-friendly! Purchase it from Ulta!
If your skin is a mixture of irritated, dry, and sensitive, then it’s very possible that you’re dealing with a compromised moisture barrier. This is the unfortunate condition when the skin just revolts against you and refuses to hang on to moisture. Doing sheet masks for a few nights in a row can seriously help bring the skin back to a supple and strong state, but it’s important to choose a mask like this set.
These masks contain no fragrance or other irritants, but instead, it’s filled with gentle ingredients like marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, and hydrolyzed soy protein that help restore moisture and hydration. Find it on Amazon!
There is something about the scent of roses that’s so incredibly uplifting! That’s why we love this fragranced sheet mask. While it’ll be too potent for those with scent allergies, everyone else is sure to love its intoxicating smell. Beyond the beautiful aromatic treatment it provides, it also has some lovely skincare ingredients, including antioxidant rose flower extract, of course, as well as allantoin and hyaluronic acid. Get it shipped from Amazon!
We’re totally obsessed with Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost line, and this sheet mask is a unique standout. Most of our list features Korean and Japanese brands, but this sheet mask from the mainstream American brand is a lovely option. It’s rich in hydrating agents like hyaluronic acid and soothing extracts like Irish moss and snow mushroom. Though it is fragranced, the scent is gentle and clean, so it should work for most. You can pick it up at Ulta or Amazon.
To cap things off, another amazing mask from the good Korean doctor. Rather than a typical sheet mask, this is a rubber facial mask, so it creates an even more intense seal over the skin than the average sheet mask. The result? Incredible occlusivity and hydration with maximal product penetration.
Applying this mask is a two-step process. First, you apply an ampoule that covers the skin in a blend of hydrating and soothing ingredients, and then add the rubber mask on top to lock everything in. It looks a little odd, but the results are dramatic. Find it at Sephora!
We love single-use sheet masks, but we gotta admit that all of the waste they create isn’t ideal, especially when it comes to their wrapping. That’s why we love that Lululun packages their cotton sheet masks all together, kind of like face wipes. You just fish one out, smooth it over your face, and enjoy the dramatic anti-aging and moisturizing effects of garden cress extract and passionfruit oil. You can buy these on Amazon.
If you want to try your hand at making your own sheet masks, either out of custom blends or from your favorite skincare serums or essences, this little kit can help! It includes 100 folded cotton sheet masks that you simply saturate with your liquid of choice. The set also comes with two mask brushes, a spatula, and a mixing bowl, so you can have a lot of fun preparing your unique formula. It’s sold on Amazon.
How to Choose the Best Sheet Masks for Your Skin Type
As a rule, sheet masks are light and hydrating, so they can help your skin no matter your skin type. However, some do a better job boosting the look and feel of some skin types over others, so it’s still worth keeping in mind, especially when you purchase your first sheet mask.
Sheet Masks for Normal and Combination Skin
Most people find that their skin is somewhere in the middle, between oil and dry. That can mean that you have medium-sized pores and a normal amount of oil production, or it can mean that some parts of your face are dry while others are oily.
Either way, sheet masks are a fantastic option for you! This is because most sheet masks load the skin up with a high amount of moisture to counter the dehydration that can plague everyone, but without heavy emollients that will make you feel grease.
Almost all of the sheet masks on our list are worth trying, but it’s especially true for the ones we recommend for all skin types.
Sheet Masks for Dry Skin
If you have dry skin with tiny pores, you’re probably dealing with both dehydration and a lack of oils. Your skin can get flaky or rough very easily, but with a sheet mask, you can counter that easily.
Any sheet mask can work to restore moisture to the skin, but for the best results, look for ones that also include emollient ingredients that help mimic the skin’s natural sebum. Such ingredients include botanical oils, squalane, and ceramides.
Sheet Masks for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you can get shiny without hours, if not minutes of washing your face, and your pores are likely a little on the larger side. While traditionally, you’d want to use clay masks with your skin types, sheet masks are also a fine choice.
Those with oily skin are not immune to dehydration, which refers to the lack of water in the skin, and sheet masks can combat that because they’re not greasy at all, but they’re still super hydrating.
Additionally, you can also look for ones designed with added purifying ingredients like charcoal, salicylic acid, and tea tree oil. However, make sure to avoid sheet masks with too many emollient oils because they might feel heavy on your skin.
Choose the Best Sheet Mask for Your Skin Concerns
Another thing you’ll want to consider when choosing the best sheet mask for you is whether it addresses any specific skin concerns you have. Unlike skin type, which is simply a question of how much oil your skin produces and generally doesn’t change much, skin concerns are very diverse, and they can come and go.
Whatever your skin concerns might be, there are some sheet masks out there that can help!
Sheet Masks for Dehydration
Dehydration, or the lack of water in the skin, is the most common concern that sheet masks address by saturating the skin with humectant that can pull water in from the environment. Almost all sheet masks contain such ingredients, which include glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, butylene glycol, and more.
Because of the sheet design, those ingredients penetrate into the skin very deeply, so you can expect to feel much more hydrated for hours on end after using a sheet mask. If you deal with chronic dehydration, make sheet masks a regular part of your skincare routine!
Sheet Masks for Fine Lines and Wrinkles
As we grow older, our skin starts to show signs of aging, like fine lines and loss of tones. Almost all sheet masks can slightly plump up the skin, which helps make it appear smoother and more youthful in the short term.
For long-term results, look for sheet masks with potent anti-aging ingredients like retinol or peptides. If you want a sheet mask that’ll prevent those signs of premature aging, look for antioxidants like niacinamide, green tea, vitamin C, vitamin E, and most plant or fruit extracts.
Sheet Masks for Acne-Prone Skin
When you have acne-prone skin, sheet masks with soothing ingredients like centella asiatica or niacinamide can help reduce the redness and inflammation from an active breakout. For acne prevention or long-term results, however, look for specific anti-acne ingredients like salicylic acid and tea tree oil.
Sheet Masks for Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is the condition when the skin turns dark in irregular spots. It can show up as dark spots or diffused melasma, usually in response to some sort of trauma or inflammation.
Soothing sheet masks are fantastic for preventing hyperpigmentation, but to reverse it, you’ll need more potent ingredients. Vitamin C, licorice root extract, and niacinamide are particularly well-regarded for their ability to reverse dark spots and other types of pigmentation.
If your skin turns red and irritated easily, it’s a sign that you have sensitive skin. Sheet masks can be wonderfully cooling and soothing, which helps strengthen the skin and alleviate sensitivity. The best ingredients to look for in a sheet mask for you are green tea extract, centella asiatica extract, and niacinamide.
One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of sheet masks contain fragrances, which a lot of folks with sensitive skin can’t tolerate. We made sure to include a few fragrance-free masks on our list, so look for one of those if you know it can be an issue.
