Kitsch created a brand dedicated to improving haircare routines to encourage us to go beyond weekly shampooing and conditioning. The brand has become known for everything from silk pillowcases that help prevent breakage to its satin scarf that makes your nightly bedtime routine quick, simple, and luxurious.

It was only natural for the Latinx-owned beauty brand to continue its venture into the haircare space by introducing its Pre-Wash Scalp Oil, a gentle yet effective multitasking oil that prioritizes a healthy scalp for natural hair growth.

We spoke to the founder and CEO of Kitsch, Cassandra Morales Thurswell. She explained that the inspiration for the new product stemmed from simplicity.

“At Kitsch, we create simple products that make a big difference,” Thurswell shared with enthusiasm. “When we heard from our community that one of their biggest concerns was hair loss, we knew we needed to take action. After all, healthy hair growth starts at the scalp.”

Below, learn more about the formula of the scalp oil that was released this week.

The formula behind the scalp oil

The Pre-Wash Scalp Oil is designed to support scalp health, hair strength, and hair growth from root to tip by loosening buildup and nourishing the scalp before shampooing. A proprietary blend of argan, jojoba, and castor oils brings moisture and nourishment back into the hair and scalp.

According to Thurswell, these oils combined provide improved circulation, along with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The oil also includes biotin, which supports hair strength and length, rosemary extract to encourage hair growth, and lavender essential oil for a soothing scent.

Thurswell noted that all of the ingredients are naturally derived. “The mix of essential oils and fatty oils in our pre-wash treatment provides nourishing antioxidants for the scalp,” she said.

How to get the best results

Thurswell recommended using Kitsch’s new scalp oil as a pre-wash treatment before hopping in the shower. “Apply a couple of dropper-fulls to your scalp and massage thoroughly into the roots and skin. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes,” she instructed.

To further enhance your experience, the founder suggested wearing the brand’s Deep Conditioning Flaxseed Heat Cap to reap the full benefits of a hot oil treatment

“We recommend using it consistently at least every other hair wash, but every hair wash is ideal,” Thurswell said. “You’ll see amazing results either way.” The oil can also be used in between washes if you notice your hair needs a boost of hydration. Simply apply one to two drops to the bottom of your hair when your ends look dry.
