A lot of times we see trends that have basically been recycled or just making their rounds again, but the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trends are invigorating. Spring is about renewal and rebirth, and summer is the time to shine with the longest days and the warmest months, so we don’t mind seeing some new versions of old favorites appearing. Still, there is nothing like discovering something new to love.
Flowers, both real and fake, are expected summer 2018 accessory trends – they are the symbols of the season, but how they are done and worn can be new. With all the spring/ summer 2018 fashion trends being dissected post Fashion Weeks, lovers of all aspects of fashion are having a field day. Even better, the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessories include quite a bit of clever sparkle.
The upcoming season will be jam packed with options from sporty to opulent. You’ll notice that low ponytails and wrapped low ponytails are among the spring/ summer 2018 hairstyle trends, done in several different ways. Find one that works for you below, and adorn it with a lovely hair accessory! If hair accessories are your thing, or even if you just want to give it a try, the numerous options to choose from will certainly give you a reason to smile.
#1. Pearl Encrusted Hair Accessories
Simone Rocha definitely got things rolling for the spring 2018 hair accessories with the pearl encrusted hair clips. Models wore three at a time, strategically placed with one at the arch and one on either side at the end of the eyebrows. The whole look was very dainty and renaissance era styled, working perfectly with the runway presentation.
These pearl clips looked great in every head of hair and will add a touch of grace to even the most low-key look. Each of the pearls was decently sized with multiples on each clip making for a pretty eye-catching feature that held back the Hermione-esque frizzy curls and fly-away hair.
These stunning hair pins not only secured the hair and made a lasting impression that has most of us ready to add them into our spring/ summer 2018 accessories collections, but they showed serious staying power on multiple hair textures. They caught the light, just right from each angle and gave off a romantic and old world feel.
#2. Rhinestone-Affixed Parts
Dries Van Noten’s spring 2018 hair accessory trend contribution was one of the coolest – hands down. No one can seem to pinpoint exactly how they pulled it off initially, but it is incredible to see and surprisingly easy to do, if you’re interested.
The speculation is that using a bit of eyelash glue will allow a strip of rhinestones to be affixed to a center or side part for an extra bit of bling and sparkle without snatching out your hair. It was unexpectedly cool and certain to be duplicated through the upcoming fashion season and beyond.
#3. Gold Barrettes
Versace is synonymous with ornate and lavish design, so the deluxe feel and style of the gold barrettes on the runway were certain to make them a shoe in for the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessories trend. Each of the barrettes features small versions of the Versace medallions, making each barrette even more iconic. The models wore two at time, in face framing style.
Vicky Zhang’s gold dragonfly hair accessories for summer 2018 featured pearl heads and translucent wings. They were decadent and beautiful and will surely be one of the most sought after spring 2018 hair accessory trends.
#4. Silk Hair Wraps
Lanvin was watched even more attentively than normal during the spring 2018 ready-to-wear runway show because there had been a few important shakeups in the staffing. As we all watched closely, we saw another version of the dressed up, low ponytail – this time wrapped from the base to about mid down with silk Lanvin scarves.
First and foremost, this is a spring 2018 hair accessory trend that actually allows for the multi purposing of silk scarves, which is fantastic, but the look was great, and silk does not agitate hair cuticles. When taking this style down there will be no need to pay extra attention to your hair, and the scarves came in great colors with the Lanvin name printed all over them. Moreover scarves have also made it to the spring/ summer 2018 hat trends, so get a couple in interesting colors and play with them!
#5. Lace and Ribbon Wraps
Fenty x Puma’s bungee ponytails were seen on a few of the models during Rihanna’s motocross, biker girl and summer swim themed runway show. The low ponytails were wrapped up and tied up with bright sporty ties in a sporty, bunched up way that seemed complicated but also unforeseen.
Rochas used pieces of fabric from the collection to create a spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trend we already love. The ribbons of fabric were used to tie down the model’s hair in an “S” shape on the low ponytails, then wrapped around and tied off.
#6. Leather and Perspex Wraps for Ponytails
Leowe featured leather wrapped low ponytails with a single loop. The collection’s contribution to the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trends was a long leather strap. It seems very low maintenance and super easy to use.
Ulla Johnson featured tight low ponytails wrapped in two yards lengths of leather in neutral tones. On the runway, the ponytails were sewn closed at the top and the bottom to keep the leather wraps tight and accentuate the look as a counterbalance to the very feminine aesthetic of the collection.
Chanel really aimed to wow with the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trend that was an integral part of the runway show. The popular low ponytail was clearly in place but the extended length cover, which is also very on trend for the upcoming season, was made from perspex.
Perspex is a clear plastic material, the same as lucite or plexiglas. For Chanel, the perspex ponytail covers match the overall ‘waterproof’ look of the collection and are perfect for those ‘April Showers’.
#7. Scrunchies
Mansur Gavriel showed off high fashion periwinkle and printed scrunchies as one of the coolest spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trends. You read that right – scrunchies! When fashion wants to take a hold of something and elevate it from a convenience to a trend, this is how it’s done. The scrunchies were made of vintage Italian fabric and placed loosely on low ponytails for a casual look on air-dried hair.
If you intend to purchase your own vintage Italian Mansur Gavriel scrunchies, don’t expect the typical scrunchie prices. Rather than a few scrunchies for a couple of dollars, each scrunchie will be sold for $35. The price is due to the brand name and the type of fabric – vintage Italian fabric isn’t cheap after all. Taking a higher quality trip down memory lane with a new set of scrunchies could be fun, if you dare.
#8. Cloth Flowers and Accents
Marchesa featured romantic, wispy and deconstructed spring 2018 hair accessories accented with soft cloth flowers placed without pattern. The effect was wistful and interesting and added brilliantly to the romanticism of the show.
Rodarte reached the pinnacle of baby’s breath usages with the flowers kissing temples and necks, flowing and floating around like a halo of soft green and white. The Blondes collection showed off huge red flowers pinned to the side for a warm take on a classic style.
Dolce & Gabbana showed off headpieces piled with beautiful flowers and just a touch of green. The headpieces had small amounts of trinkets and chains, but they appeared to be the natural evolution of the flower crown. There were also large flowers pinned on the sides and used as accents. It was feminine, stunning and perfect accessorizing for spring and summer.
Philipp Plein channeled Rapunzel in a very real way, making Rapunzel wraps a very real spring 2018 hair accessory trend. The bad girls wore black faux flowers, while the other models wore colorful faux flowers, interwoven between long wrapped braids. The extensions were yards long, braided into the models’ hair through French braids and finished off with faux flowers and looped braids.
#9. Flower Crowns
Dolce & Gabbana had stellar, ultra large flower crowns and other assorted hair pieces as one of the most opulent spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trends.
Naeem Khan had flower crowns that were woven into a braid from one side of the head, around the back and to the other. There were several different versions of the crowns, each with its own appeal, but these spring 2018 hair accessories managed to not be upstaged by the rest of the accessorizing going on within the collection.
Rodarte took flower crowns to another level with huge amounts of baby’s breath crowning the heads of the models. A more accurate description would be that the baby’s breath started on one side of the model’s crown and flowed across the top before cascading down the other side.
#10. (Forever Classic) Black Hair Ties
Public School debuted an easy, low pony that was wrapped at the top and the bottom of the ponytail. It looks like a quick and easy addition to a morning routine, making use of loose curls and structuring bed head. Fortunately, this looks like it uses regular hair ties, but the look itself makes the way these hair ties are used as a spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory.
Victoria Beckham used hair ties for half looped, half pulled back hairstyles that frankly we have all done at one point or another. Alberta Feretti showcased double bound ponytails held securely in place with thinner black hair ties.
Ermanno Scervino featured a ladder of ponytails held by small black hair ties for a quartet of mini ponytails. Roberto Cavalli went for the slicked-back ultra chic look with the lowest of low ponytails, and the hair was held in place with what? You guessed it! The simple, forever classic black hair tie.
#11. All Types of Headbands
From Concept Korea to Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci, we saw cool uses of all types of headbands for spring 2018. The sporty headbands at Concept Korea added a brighter pop of color to the natural, air-dried hair. Dolce & Gabbana, and Gucci amped up the fun and regal looks by using rhinestone and cupcake-embellished headbands. It was jarring and interesting and deceptively easy to duplicate!
#12. Stylized Bobby Pins
Stylized bobby pins are basically just bobby pins that are placed artistically in the hair. They may be gold or silver or another pearlized or metallic finish, sometimes even in neon colors.
Bobby pins as a spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trend are based more on them being grouped interestingly in the hair. Exposed bobby pins can be interlaced in the hair for a stunning overall look similar to what the models wore on the Maki Oh runway.
Bobby pins have been building in popularity gradually these last few seasons, but thanks to visuals like the multiple bobby pins lined up to hold hair behind the ears at the Sally LaPointe runway, they are officially on trend. Show off your creatively styled exposed bobby pins for the spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trend of choice.
#13. Bows
Erdem spruced up their low ponytails with a variety of bows. One of the most feminine spring/ summer 2018 hair accessory trends, the bows ranged in stiffness, but were tied to accent the low ponytails with shiny black chiffon.
Calvin Luo also features soft, velvety bows in a curly pineapple styled ponytail with a deliberate ‘80s feel. Delpozo models had a tight bun that was accentuated with a gigantic bow shaped woven headpiece in several different colors that toed the line of simplicity and extravagance.
Les Copains featured finger waves primarily, but the back had a large tied bow in certain cases, completing the sculpted look in an unexpected way. Following along with the other spring 2018 hair accessory trends, the bow was tied at the nape of the neck, apparently the ideal location for many of the upcoming hairstyles.
It’s a sophisticated take on bows that would have been seen as rather large for grown women, but it is certainly growing in popularity, thanks to the recent Fashion Week showings.
