Paris Fashion Week spring 2019 continues with some of the best designs seen yet, presented by the likes of Off-White, Isabel Marant, and Loewe. Paris has always been the center of fashion, with some of the oldest operating fashion houses having been founded in the city of romance. It is the sovereign of iconic and heritage fashion collections. It holds power and prestige, boasting the most must-see reveals by top houses, as well as poaching fan-favorite names away from New York especially.
The designers are multigenerational, with some of the older founders sharing space with newcomer 20-somethings with the zeal and passion to bring a house back up onto its feet. It is focused on the now, the present fashion trends and that which it anticipates will be coming soon. It doesn’t dwell in the past so much, but it sure does push us into the future as much as possible, while staying relevant to the 21st century.
Off-White Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
If you wanted a very white collection, we can state that there are at least 17 white outfits to choose from in the Off-White spring 2019 ready-to-wear collection. While many designers are opting for the darker colors, Off-White went bright, light and with a Serena Williams inspiration.
Virgil Abloh brought in female athletes for his models, with the collection very much full of the sporty, the neon and the big ball gowns with a rebellious edge. According to the designer, using sports as the backdrop made perfect sense; “It is used for entertainment, but people dedicate their lives to it.” We agree that it was a great way to show strength in women while still outlining the femininity that makes them so beguiling.
We especially loved that neon python long-sleeve with short shorts ensemble with the new Nike x Off-White sneakers in the collection. Neon unitards, bright yellow bodysuits and gorgeous catsuits found their way onto the runway, with plunging necklines and demurely sexy keyholes coming into place.
The Off-White spring 2019 collection featured a good number of pieces we would certainly appear at a sports event in, or even head out for brunch and mimosas wearing. We have to admit though, that neon and white tulle skirt with a white tee in typical sport cut makes for an interesting wedding gown should someone decide to go down that road.
Isabel Marant Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
If you had missed the silver and the ‘80s glam extravaganza, look no further than the Isabel Marant spring 2019 collection. She decided to throw a sparking party on stage, full of disco vibes.
For years, the label has branded itself as the place to go when looking for cool downtown looks and a boho-chic sporting a Parian edge. Now, we get a lot more party flavors, including sparkling silver sweater dresses with extra-long sleeves and mini hems. The use of denim also added to the appeal, bringing the collection down to earth a little. It was a coed collection done right, but the women’s looks interested us most.
Marant was certainly in her element this season. From paisley-print ruched dresses to embroidered peasant blouses, scrunchy knee-high boots in white and silver to fringed macramé bags to complete the outfits, it was a fun lineup alongside becoming a party, complete with a bar and dance floor.
Who would not want to buy a few pieces after enjoying the night out? For us, those metallic leather mini dresses and silver sequined pants were entertaining if not downright lovable. While the past seasons had brought in the ‘80s, Marant made sure to give it an added makeover, keeping the spirit well alive in the seasons before we enter a new decade.
Loewe Spring/ Summer 2019 RTW Collection
Jonathan Anderson is by far one of the better artists out there, understanding how to turn a brand into its DNA. For the Loewe spring 2019 collection, vulnerability, artisanal touches, a good understanding of the craft and an evolving modernity pervaded.
In his own words, “It’s free; it’s sensual; it’s satin; it’s a mass of textures. I feel this is what the brand is becoming – its DNA. I had the idea about people walking through a gallery space who are individuals, but connected by a common thread.”
The bohemian, the relaxed, the matured and the classy seem to be that thread. While trying to avoid fashion clichés, the designer has artfully created a lovely collection that is both appealing to the masses and centered on individuality and gentle take on modern trends.
So what can you expect from the Loewe spring 2019 lineup? Easy-to-wear caftans, interestingly partially deconstructed trousers, patchwork quilted dresses, and even a delicate, lightly crumpled nightie edged in lace and appearing in a very cliché pink.
Furthermore, since Loewe is well known for its bags, we got fringed leather, crocheted raffia, canvas and even baskets on that runway. It was all quite grown-up, but also featuring outfits that make a woman feel young and beautiful.
